Director of Bands, Statesboro High School
Lee Collins began teaching at Statesboro High School in 2012 and now is in his 21st year of directing high school bands. Mr. Collins graduated from Valdosta State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 1999. He earned his Master’s degree from Georgia Southern University in Music Technology in 2009.
Since coming to Statesboro High School the marching and concert bands have received superior rating at all festivals and competitions under Mr. Collins’ direction. Mr. Collins’ first outing with the Marching Blue Devil Band was representing Georgia in the 2012 Forth of July parade in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Collins came to SHS from Tattnall County High School where he served as Director of Bands for 13 years. While at Tattnall County High School his concert and marching bands consistently received superior and excellent rating at regional and area festivals and competitions. While also in his tenure at TCHS Mr. Collins began a Steel Drum Band that opened for Darius Rucker at Fort Stewarts Fourth of July Celebration 2010.
Additionally, Mr. Collins has served as a clinician presenting at Georgia Music Educators’ In-Service Convention in Savannah, GA. He is a member of Georgia Music Educators‘ Association and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
He and his wife, Rhyne, live in Statesboro, Georgia, with their three children, Nolen, Katelyn and Molly.
Director of Music, Portal Middle/High School
John Gleissner is a Georgia Southern University alumnus and a Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonian. He believes that music should be fun, can help link and bond different people based on their love for it, and that everyone should have some music in their lives. Mr. Gleissner is currently in his 4th year at Portal Middle High School (PMHS). The program has more than quadrupled in size since he started. He attributes his ability to teach well to his wife, Patricia Gleissner, his mentor, Lee Collins, and his college professors Dr. Matt Fallin, Dr. Michael Braz, and Dr. Robert Dunham.
Director of Bands, Southeast Bulloch High School
Matt Olsen is in his fourteenth year as band director at Southeast Bulloch High School where the band has earned Superior ratings on the stage with the Symphonic Band and Percussion Ensemble as well as multiple championships with the “SEB Swarm” Marching Band. Attending Troy State University as a Music Education Major, Matt served as section leader and performed with the Sound of the South Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Chamber Winds, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Pep Band. During Matt’s tenure as percussion instructor at Enterprise HS in Enterprise, AL, the EHS Indoor Drumline placed in finals at WGI Championships. Matt has performed with Magic of Orlando and Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps earning an Individual and Ensemble Championship in 1996. He has instructed Capitol Sound Drum and Bugle Corps in Madison, Wisconsin and Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps in Jacksonville, FL. He has served as composer, instructor and clinician for music programs throughout Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi.
Matt lives in Brooklet, Ga. with his wife, Carie, and three daughters, Ana, Kera, and Maia.
